Frequently Asked Questions:
What is naturopathic medicine?
Naturopathic medicine combines evidence-based medicine with natural and traditional therapies.
Naturopathic doctors are trained in conventional medical diagnosis and pharmacology in a primary care setting, along with nutrition, nutraceuticals, mind-body medicine, botanical/herbal medicine, acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), spinal manipulations, parenteral nutrition (including IV & IM nutrients), and homeopathy.
Naturopathic doctors are trained as general medicine practitioners, although many end up practicing with special focuses within medicine.
Do you offer primary care services?
Yes, in AZ, naturopathic doctors are considered primary care providers. Dr. Ellis can fill this role for you, if desired. Dr. Ellis will also happily become a member of your care team and work alongside your existing PCP and/or specialty providers.
Do you prescribe medications?
Yes, Dr. Ellis is both trained and licensed in AZ to prescribe pharmaceutical medications. She adheres to an integrative approach and recommends pharmaceuticals when necessary and appropriate.
Do you require an appointment deposit?
To reserve your appointment time, a non-refundable deposit is required at the time of booking. Most appointments require a $100 deposit. For services priced under $100, the full cost will be taken as the deposit. If you are using a prepaid service package, no deposit is required.
Do you have a cancellation policy?
Yes, we require 48-hours notice for rescheduling or cancelling appointments.
Deposits are forfeited for missed appointments or cancellations made with less than 48 hours’ notice. For prepaid packages, failure to attend or late cancellation will result in the loss of one service from your package.
Do you accept health insurance?
We are a cash-pay only business, meaning we do not accept insurance.
However, some companies, like Cigna, will cover naturopathic appointments.
Many insurance companies will cover acupuncture services.
We are happy to provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance company for a claim. At their discretion, they may partially or fully reimburse you for some services.
We encourage all patients to discuss coverage directly with their insurance companies.
Will labs or imaging be covered by my health insurance?
We cannot guarantee this, as every insurance policy is different.
However, in general, most insurance companies will cover labs and imaging ordered by a naturopathic doctor, as they are recognized as primary care providers in Arizona.
Medicare and Medicaid do not cover labs or imaging ordered by naturopathic doctors in AZ.
Additionally, most insurance companies do not cover specialty labs or testing.
We encourage all patients to discuss coverage directly with their insurance companies.
